Camilo Weinberger has been part of our Optoelectronics Lab since 2019. He was a member of the first cohort of the PhD program at the School of Electrical Engineering (EIE) at PUCV and is the second to obtain his degree from Optolab.<\/p>\n\n\n

On Tuesday, July 30, Camilo defended his thesis titled Deep Learning Wavefront Sensing for Extremely Large Telescopes<\/em>, explaining the research he developed over his four years of doctoral study, including his time interning at the Laboratory of Astrophysics of Marseille<\/a> (LAM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His research and publications during this period focused on using neural networks <\/strong>to enhance adaptive optics systems<\/strong> for Extremely Large Telescopes<\/em>, giant telescopes that will be installed in the north of our country. The article titled Transformer Neural Networks for Closed-Loop Adaptive Optics Using Non-Modulated Pyramid Wavefront Sensors<\/a><\/em> was, as he noted, the \u00abbackbone of his doctoral work.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camilo joined Optolab after completing his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Physics, introducing adaptive optics as a research topic in our lab. He is a member of the first generation of the PhD program in Electrical Engineering<\/strong> at the School of Electrical Engineering at PUCV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The examination committee was composed of Dr. Benoit Neichel from LAM<\/strong>, who traveled from France to participate in Camilo\u2019s defense, along with Dr. Nelly Cerpa<\/strong>, a postdoc from the University of Los Andes, and Dr. Dar\u00edo P\u00e9rez<\/strong> from the Institute of Physics at PUCV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also present were Mauricio Rodr\u00edguez, the director of the PhD program, Esteban Vera, director of Optolab and Camilo\u2019s advisor, along with his family and lab colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the highest possible grade<\/strong>, of 7.0, for his defense and presentation, Camilo Weinberger is the newest member of Optolab to receive the title of PhD in Electrical Engineering from PUCV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congratulations to Dr. Camilo Weinberger for his outstanding presentation and excellent thesis defense, where he answered his committee\u2019s questions brilliantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
